Morocco is this week’s European Tour destination, which pays a visit to the Golf du Palais Royal golf course in Agadir for the Trophée Hassan II tournament.

There is a great selection of Team Callaway players taking part this week, including the in-form Pablo Larrazabal, fresh off a T-6th last week in Malaysia, while South African Garth Mulroy returns after a well deserved break. Here’s who our “experts” picked, out of the #TeamCallaway staff players taking part, to be in the mix on Sunday.

The Picks

Dominic WarneDominic Warne (Senior Marketing Manager, EMEA)
Dom’s picks: David Horsey, Alvaro Quiros and Garth Mulroy.

Pick #1: David Horsey
Winner in 2011 and he’s been tweeting for weeks that he’s so close to getting his game right. 25th in driving accuracy on the European Tour statistics and on a track that will bring back great memories. This guy is a great putter too. A big week beckons.

Pick #2: Alvaro Quiros
3rd week back after injury and he’s already no.1 for driving distance on Tour and he’s striping his RAZR Fit Xtreme. A class act in a moderate field.

Pick #3: Garth Mulroy
In form, top 10 in Euro stats for stroke average & putts per GIR. No cuts missed, 3 top 10s in 8 starts. A form horse.

Feel uncomfortable not picking Pablo because his swing changes are starting to bed in, so maybe one of the other guys will pick him instead.

Elliott PlattsElliott Platts (PR & Events – UK & Northern Europe)
Platts’ picks: Alvaro Quiros, Pablo Larrazabal and David Horsey.

Pick #1: Alvaro Quiros
I am going to stick with my man. I have backed him every week since his return and you can see his form gradually improving. He has the distance from the tee and if he can roll in a few more putts then it may be a quick return to the top for Alvaro.

Pick #2: Pablo Larrazabal
Larrazabal looks in complete control of his game right now. He finished 3rd in the driving stats last week bombing his X Hot Pro Driver on average 305.7 yards and he is hitting greens in reg for fun this season. If the putts drop for the Spaniard then come Sunday he will be dancing in the streets of Morocco!

Pick #3: David Horsey
He will be fresh this week after missing last week’s Maybank Malaysian Open and previous to that he finished T-6 at the Avantha Masters. His stroke average (70.88) this season is his best since joining the Tour and I sense he is hungry for success. Go on the ‘horse.’

Mike ClarkMike Clark (Custom Fit Supervisor – Europe)
Mike’s picks: Garth Mulroy, Alvaro Quiros and David Horsey.

Right here are mine, tough this week with the field .

Pick #1: Garth Mulroy
Had a solid 2013 so far with a fourth place at the Africa Open and three other top 20’s.  Garth has a good all round game that is well suited to the short tree lined Golf du Palais Royal layout.  His ‘Putt per GIR’ stats say if he can find the greens this week he should start racking up the birdies.

Pick #2: Alvaro Quiros
Always fun to watch as you never know which Alvaro is likely to show up on any given day.  His enormous length won’t be needed this week but with it he could have a lot of short clubs into greens even hitting irons off the tee.  Only his 3rd event back after injury but you just never know with him!

Pick #3: David Horsey
Like Mulroy his game is suited to this short layout. Another solid week from tee to green where his fairways hit and GIR stats both average around 70% should lead to plenty of chance due to the course length. He just needs to find a little form on the greens and he’ll be off & running.

Cameron de BuckCameron de Buck (Digital Marketing & Social Media – Europe)
Cam’s picks: Pablo Larrazabal, Garth Mulroy and Jean Baptiste Gonnet.

Pick #1: Pablo Larrazabal
Pablo is in good form – and it’s consistant too, so I’m definitely including him again this week as my #1 pick. Should the putter start to heat up, we could be looking at a win for the cheeky Spaniard.

Pick #2: Garth Mulroy
It’s good to welcome back the in-form Saffa. My hands are a bit tied as he’s the only SA #teamCallaway staffer, but luckily his form speaks for itself. Just hoping he’s not too rusty.

Pick #3: Jean-Baptiste Gonnet
The Frenchman is full of confidence and tweeted last week that hes only a few putts and a few ‘smarter’ shots away from a Top 10. Here’s hoping, as he’s a rank outsider!

The Final Word

Mike take’s G’s points from last week as Mike dropped out, and gets a solid 5, moving him up to 77 points and a solid 2nd place. Cameron still has a good lead on 88. What will Morocco bring…? Remeber, the real competition starts in a few weeks when we’ll be holding our exciting X Hot Picks Challenge Competition, which starts the week of the Masters.

The Points are allocated as follows:

  • Win: 15pts
  • Top 5: 10pts
  • Top 10: 5pts
  • Top 20: 3pts
  • Making the Cut: 1pt

Every week, the ‘expert’ who has the lowest score will drop out for the following week, to be replaced by a ‘guest pundit‘. And should that guest do well, starting from the Masters, there are some great prizes to be won. More to follow in the next few weeks…
