It’s Week Three of the EPGA’s ‘Desert Swing’, which this week touches down at the Emirates GC for the Omega Dubai Desert Classic, AND it’s Week Three of Callaway Hot Picks (far more important you may say?!).
We’d like to welcome Ashley Pheasant, who was chosen as our #XHotPicks Guest Pundit. He’s played it pretty safe, but we’ll see how he does come Sunday, and we’ll have a little table going too, showing how the usual suspects are faring, and how Ashley has done against us. Remember, if our guest pundit comes out on top, they’ll win a great X Hot prize.
Pick #1: Thongchai Jaidee
Currently in form, must know these courses pretty well. Using the new gear… sneaky feeling he is going to do well this week!!!
Pick #2: Alex Noren
Looking sharper than ever, I have followed his tweets lately and he seems confident. Decent record in this swing of events in the past and hopefully has spent more time hitting balls than he has perfecting his re-gripping.
Pick #3: Danny Willett
Showed a bit of early season form. He hits it a mile and surely round a course where low scoring is going to happen he could be the man…
Pick #1: Thomas Bjorn
Not straying from my Desert Swing favourite, Thomas has good form in Dubai with a Top 10 and Top 20 in the last few years. He’s not far away from another good result, and he loves the desert (I’ve been seeing that for the last 2 weeks).
Pick #2: Thongchai Jaidee
The run of Top 10s continued in Qatar and he’s got form in Dubai with a recent Top 3. Hopefully he can convert this week. Ride the hot streak.
Pick #3: Alex Noren
Been one of my favourite young golfers for the last few years. He’s now broken through. But for a poor start to his final round last week, he could have challenged for the title. If he can get the putter working, then another title looks possible.
Pick #1: Danny Willett
After four solid rounds at last year’s event, I’m expecting Danny to get his season into full flow this week in Dubai.
Pick #3: Thongchai Jaidee
Jaidee is flying this season; has already bagged close to €200,000 and currently sits 10th in the Race to Dubai. Seeing as I am still in Thailand it seems right to continue to back my man for the win…
Pick #1: Danny Willett
I’m going to agree with Elliot here. I feel that Danny has the game to win in Dubai & add to his maiden win from last year. He has looked comfortable so far this season & is growing in confidence.
Pick #2: Jeev Milkha Singh
A tough competitor who grinds out results in his own unique style. Got a feeling that he is due a good week from the tone of his recent tweets.
Pick #3: Thomas Bjorn
Thomas has a good record in the desert swing events & after a quiet year in 2012 by his high standard I think he will be a good each way punt.
Pick #1: Garth Mulroy
My choice of #TeamCallaway Saffa picks may seem a bit limited this week, with the ‘Big Easy’ and ‘Gracie’ having a few weeks off, but I would’ve picked Mr Mulroy anyway. The tall Sunshine Tour veteran from Durban has had a solid Desert Swing so far, and is really enjoying his new bag of Callaway weapons.
Pick #2: Thongchai Jaidee
The former paratrooper for the Royal Thai Army really seems to be enjoying the heat of the desert, with two Top 10’s in the desert. You would’ve had to have had one too many sherberts at an infamous ‘Full Moon Party’ NOT to pick the 2012 Wales Open Champion.
Pick #3: Pablo Larrazabal
The likable Spaniard has had a mixed bag of results the last two weeks, but I’m hoping his up-and-down form can translate into some great up-and-downs at the Emirates GC. For someone who’s known to have a good hotstreak, perhaps there is no better place to enjoy one than in Dubai.
A few obvious picks this week, with our pundits perhaps still a little bit scared to go for a real #TeamCallaway wild card. Once the table is published next week, it might force the issue and get us to pick an outsider in order to break away from the field.
Check back next week to look at the table and to see how Ashley, our first real guest pundit, has done. To learn more about our Staff Pros and the equipment they’re playing, please visit our Callaway Tour page.
So Week One of the Callaway Hot Picks Challenge is under the belt, and with most of us picking Branden Grace, we could graciously call it a friendly tie. (And although two of Cameron’s three picks did finish in the … more
