Home Advantage Pays off in Sweden
Callaway Staff Player Alex Noren enjoyed a memorable week in his home country, running out a comfortable winner at the Nordea Masters on Sunday.
The 29-year-old followed opening rounds of 67 and 66 with a stunning course-record 63 on Saturday that enabled him to tee off on the final day with an 11-shot lead. In very testing conditions Noren then closed out the tournament with a gritty 77 for a seven-shot win.
Using a full bag of Callaway and Odyssey clubs, Noren at one point went 53 holes without a bogey and returned a number of impressive statistics that confirm his domination of the event.
Using his RAZR X Forged irons, Alex led the field in Greens in Regulation, hitting an incredible 79.2%. His RAZR Hawk driver has already proved its worth this season (in Wales he was #1 in driving distance) and again it provided a superb platform from which to attack the course. Alex was 7th in Driving Distance (299.9 yards) and 9th in Driving Accuracy (67.3%). Once on the green, the trusty Odyssey Black Series i #1 was as reliable as ever as Noren ended the week ranked 3rd in Putts per Round (1.679).
Saturday’s epic round saw Noren take apart the Stadium Course at Bro Hof Slott. Measuring 7,607 yards, Bro Hof is the longest course on the European Tour schedule, but with a flawless nine-under-par round that included seven birdies and an eagle, Noren knocked two shots off the previous best score.
After lifting his third European Tour title, a relieved Noren revealed just how difficult the conditions were for the final round. “I’ve never seen wind like this in Sweden,” he said. “Every hole was super tough and even downwind it was hard to choose the clubs.”
The blustery conditions made the inclusion of the X-Tour U/18 driving iron even more significant. And Noren was so delighted with the penetrating flight of the club that he and caddie Erik Frost christened it ‘The Unbelievable’.
The victory was Alex’s second of the season on the European Tour – he also dominated the field at the SAAB Wales Open in June – and lifted him into the Top-70 on the world rankings and the Top-10 in the Race to Dubai.
In Alex’s Bag:
- RAZR Hawk Driver (9.5°)
- Diablo Octane Tour 3-wood (15°)
- X-Tour U/18 Hybrid (17°)
- RAZR X-Forged Irons (4-PW)
- X-Forged Vintage Wedges (52º/12, 56º/14 & 60º/9)
- Odyssey Black Series i #1 Putter
- Tour i(z) Ball
