Former world number one amateur and Callaway Staff Professional Danny Willett claimed his maiden European Tour victory on Sunday at the BMW International Open in Cologne, Germany, after a testing four-hole play off.
After 19 Top Ten finishes, the 24-year-old Englishman from Sheffield, powered by his RAZR Driver and HEX Black Tour Golf Ball, earned himself nearly £270,000 after a four-hole play-off in wet and windy conditions at Golf Club Gut Lärchenhof, following a tense final round that saw Willett tie for first place with an eleven under par total.
“Callaway has been brilliant,” Willett said after claiming victory. “It’s amazing. It was a tough day – it was brutal with the wind whipping and it was raining.” He added, “I’ll keep working hard and hopefully we can do it again.”
Danny turned pro in 2009 after easing his way through all three stages of Qualifying School. However, he built his reputation in the amateur ranks, recording a stunning win in the English Amateur Championship at Royal St George’s shortly after being crowned Yorkshire Amateur Champion in 2007. He then went on to play in the Walker Cup and became number one amateur in the world.
Danny ranked eighth in the field in driving distance (295.6 yards) and tied 5th in GIR (77.8%).
Donning full Callaway apparel, here’s what was in Danny’s bag:
- Callaway RAZR Hawk Proto, 9.5º
- Callaway RAZR Fit FW, 5

- Callaway Forged Wedges (48º, 52º, 56º & 60º)

With no time for celebrations but still in confident mood, Danny was straight on a plane over to Sunningdale. “Going to qualify for the Open tomorrow; it will make it a nice little weekend.” We wish Danny the very best of luck!
